About Oily Skin

What is oily skin?

Oily skin is a common skin condition where an excess amount of sebum is secreted and reaches the skin surface through the skin’s pores, leaving the face with a shiny look and greasy feel.

What causes oily skin?

Oily skin is caused by the overproduction of sebum from sebaceous glands. These glands are located under the skins surface. Sebum is an oily, waxy substance made of fats that protects and hydrates the skin. Sebum is important for the skins health, however, too much can result in oily skin that clogs the pores and causes acne.

Advice

How to regulate oily skin? It is recommended to wash your face twice daily with a soap-free, pH balanced cleanser. Do not use oil-based on alcohol-based cleansers. Avoid touching your face. Use non-comedogenic moisturiser, and a non-comedogenic sunscreen. Use a toner. Toners regulate the skins oil, and they are great for rebalancing the skins pH. Use blotting papers and medicated pads to remove the excess oil from the face.
